If you want to train your dog to beg for your food, you can easily accomplish just that.  Dinky’s owners enjoy asking him to “talk” and Dinky seems pretty confident he will get what he wants. The video is very sweet and the dogs are just beyond adorable!

But be careful what you ask for! When you train your dog to beg for your food, you will have a dog that begs for your food – permanently. Not just when you think it is cute.

It’s a trade off.  Moments of delightful cuteness versus a dog that will never try to beg for a bite of your sandwich.  It’s up to you. Just be fair to the dog.  If begging is OK then it’s always OK.  Inconsistency will confuse and stress your dog and that’s not fair.

Dogs will generalize a behavior they have learned.  A dog that begs food from his owner will easily branch out to begging from anyone.
