What This Shelter Volunteer Does For Dogs Will Amaze and Inspire You!

When her 14 year old Corgi, Angus, passed away almost two years ago, Sandy Barbabella decided to volunteer at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society and give a special gift to the dogs there.
Since then she has become a regular, but what she does for the dogs is a unique kindness.
Sandy sits beside the cages and reads to the dogs every Tuesday. She does this to show the dogs that there is a person who cares about them and she hopes it helps them feel less lonely.
The picture of Sandy reading ‘The Pup and the Biscuit’ to a senior pit bull named Jade went viral.

‘I enjoy it and probably get as much out of it as the dogs,’ she said, via a Western PA spokesperson.
‘They are all my favorites. Sometimes I just stand with the dogs in holding, and tears run down my face thinking about how people can do such things to an animal,’ she adds.
‘We are so thankful to Sandy for her ongoing support of our pups. She has impacted so many lives through her time and her deep compassion,’ said Western PA Humane Society director Joy Braunstein.
Please support Sandy’s efforts to help dogs. Share her story and perhaps others will be inspired to help shelter dogs in need.
